Feature/meshing release

This merge request is the massive clean up, reformatting and documenting (WIP) of the mesh generation routines. This is the release candidate we can iterate on with smaller branches in the future.

@dmoxey I think this now passes, buildbot is being weird again however.

Yep I agree that looks fine. I think Chris has been getting the tutorials to test under the buildbot which took effect mid-way through your run, which is why it looks a little off.
